In just a few short months, our oldest son will graduate from middle school. It's hard to wrap our heads around that! Come fall, we will have kids in grades 9, 6, 4, 2, and Kindergarten.
Our stairs are gate free. We can go places without a diaper bag, loaded with cheerios, pacifiers and extra clothes for the ever looming diaper explosion. We enjoyed most moments. Hey, certain stages lasted a REALLY long time for us. We do have five, including one has special needs. Teething and diapers lasted for what seemed like an ETERNITY.
This next chapter is exciting and scary. As we enter it, we are reflecting on all we've experienced. The truth is, school for our oldest has been a roller coaster. We have utilized the public school system. It's been filled with incredible times. It's been so-so. There have also been some really ugly moments. We've shared some of Dylan's school experiences, but not all. Some we're not at liberty to share. Every single experience has taught us something. In another four years, Dylan will graduate from high school. What happens after high school has always been looming in the back of our mind, but now it's working it's way towards the front.
When I think back to when Dylan started school, I'm reminded that we always wanted him to attend a private, Christian school. Rob and I both received a large part of our schooling in private, Christian education and it's just our personnel preference. But the ability to give that to Dylan was out of reach - until now. An ever present dream has recently become a reality. We made some calls, sent some emails, met with some folks. A door we NEVER thought we'd walk through has swung WIDE OPEN. Dylan will be attending a private, Christian high school. The details are still coming together, but it's happening - and everyone is completely on board.
Never say never.
